In this article we are going to share with you our top 5 keys to grow giving in your church. We believe if you follow all 5 of these steps, you will see a growth in giving at your church. We’ve seen churches implement these 5 keys and grow their giving by over 20% within 6 months! Seriously! Here are our 5 keys:
A process is defined as “a systematic series of actions directed to a some end”
It’s very important if you want people to move from a first-time guest to a dedicated volunteer, you need a system. The same is true if you want a first-time guest to become a giver, you need a process. Do you have a giving process?
We’ve done the research and created a process for your church to be Fully Funded. It’s called the Grow Giving Process.
Grow Giving Process:
Prepare – You don’t just go into a field where there’s already things growing. You need to prepare the soil in your church. We need to prepare our church for giving. Prepare a funding calendar and plan for your months/weeks.
Plant – It would be ludicrous for a farmer to expect a harvest if he didn’t plant in his soil. You’ve got to plant the seeds of generosity in your church.
Grow – A farmer doesn’t plant corn on Tuesday and expect it to be done on Wednesday. You need time. How is generosity growing in your church?
Harvest – You need tools to harvest. In the church, there’s a time to ask for money or receive the offering. You can’t have a harvest without preparing, planting, and growing.
Rest – This is active rest. We are not being lazy, but we are giving the soil time before we prepare for the next season. You, your staff, and your people all need rest. This is a yearly process.
Time Planning Income EQUALS Time Planning Outgo
Most churches, especially ones that are not fully funded, plan their budget around a month to 8 weeks but they never answer the question – How are we going to ensure the budget number is going to come in!
Without income, there can be no outgo. Fully Funded churches spend an equal amount of time saying how are we going to make sure we plant seeds, grow seeds of generosity, and make sure our harvest happens. That is a Fully Funded Plan.
“The Plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty”
Fully Funded churches have a plan.
Leverage Online Giving
This is not the future of giving. It’s the right now of giving. Online Giving has gone up 9% year over year to non-profits and overall giving has gone up 2% year over year to non-profits. If you’re not seeing this transition in your church, you are missing a lot of gifts.
If you have a generic giving page (paypal), the average gift size is $95 and average online giving is 3%. If you have a branded giving page, the average gift size is $148 and average online giving is 56%!
This is wildly important and the data does not lie.
What are you doing to help your members win with money? What are you doing to help your community win with money?
What percent of the members of your church are winning with money Gods way?
Here are some financial stats in America:
- 70% are living paycheck-to-paycheck
- When split into 10 year increments, the largest group of people paying student loans is 40-49 years of age!
- Less than 3% of Christians give 10%
Does that sound like a Jeremiah 29:11 life? “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you…” Does your church consistently offer financial education? We asked over 300 churches and 46% said they don’t offer financial education.
We have some great friends in the ministry world that can help you with financial education at your church: I Was Broke. Now I’m Not.
You need someone to own the process to grow giving at your church. An idea without an owner is a dream. In order to move things forward, you need someone to champion this process.
In order for this process to succeed, you need two people:
- Champion: The Fully Funded Champion in your church could be staff member or volunteer who says I’m going to make sure this stuff gets done. I’m going to get our Funding Calendar on the wall. I’m going to get the emails about giving sent out. Every church needs a champion.
- A Coach: The coach teaches the fundamentals – even superstars have coaches. We would love to be the coach for you when it comes to growing regular giving in your church. We’ve helped churches grow regular giving an average of 22% within 6 months of joining our program.
